[Imagineering Disneyland]
[Theme Park Architecture |
One of the most beloved experiences in America is a visit to our other national capital, Disneyland. No childhood seems complete without this rite of passage. Opened in 1955 to express a sense of postwar reassurance and to provide entertainment, Disneyland was created as an answer to honky-tonk amusement parks that were neither safe nor clean. But is the resulting theme park in Anaheim, California, and its counterparts in Orlando, Tokyo, and Paris, an escape, an escapade, or a model for urban design? The Architecture of Reassurance: Designing the Disney Theme Parks explores the connections between the real world and fantasy in shaping an architecture of pleasure. The Architecture of Reassurance is the first major public exhibition to feature drawings, photographs, models, and videos from the Walt Disney Imagineering Collection.
