Originally trained as an architect in his native Austria, Paul Frankl came to the United States in 1914 to work as an interior designer for Helena Rubenstein, among others. Inspired by the skyscraper, a new architectural form dominating the New York landscape, Frankl began to create sleek furniture pieces which echoed the flat surfaces and sharp angles of these new megastructures.
