Herbert Matter is considered a pioneer in the use of photomontage in graphic design, as shown by this poster for the Swiss National Travel Office. Early in his career, Matter studied with masters of modern design, such as Le Corbusier and Fernand Lèger. After moving to the United States, Matter was the driving force behind Knoll International's innovative graphics and advertisements, and became an influential professor in Yale's photography and graphic-design programs.
