Narciso Rodriguez has been designing his structured, elegantly minimal women's wear line since 1997. Known for his exquisite craftsmanship and use of material, Rodriguez is inspired by a love of modern architecture. He strips his garments of extraneous detail and emphasizes seaming structure to create interesting lines and shapes, often working with a black and white palette or bold monochromes. In recent seasons, the designer has introduced a greater sense of volume into his work, incorporating softer lines and flowing fabrics. Rodriguez is the first designer in history to receive consecutive Womenwear Designer of the Year awards from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, in 2002 and 2003. His work is included in Cooper-Hewitt's 2006 National Design Triennial. Rodriguez was a 2003 and 2004 finalist in this category.
