Ken Smith

Principal of Ken Smith Landscape Architecture in New York, Smith has worked on a wide variety of national and international projects in more than twenty years of both private and public practice. Smith creates distinct, often playful environments designed to improve the quality of urban life. While he has a love of natural resources, he is conscious that landscape architecture is about creating “synthetic nature” and incorporates recycled materials such as glass, rubber, and artificial rocks into his work. Recent projects include the rooftop garden at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Cornerstone Festival of Gardens in Sonoma, CA. Smith lectures extensively on landscape architectural theory an serves as a visiting lecturer at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. He was a 2006 finalist in this category and his work is represented in the 2006 National Design Triennial.
