Join textile designer Barrie Cohen of Anthemia to learn the traditional Japanese art of Shibori dyeing with indigo and create your own pattern on fabric. Learn the history behind the art of Shibori, methods for creating patterns, and the intricacies of preparing and maintaining indigo vats. All materials will be provided. This is an exposure-level workshop suitable for teens and college students; no prior experience in design is needed to participate.
ABOUT BARRIE COHEN/ANTHEMIA
Originally from New York, Barrie Cohen spent several years traveling and working on organic vegetable farms. During that time, she began exploring the different uses for plants. She became increasingly well-versed in their medicinal properties, eventually falling in love with the traditional practice of plant dyeing. Today, Cohen works out of her studio in Brooklyn and dyes fabric using plants and flowers to create one of a kind healing garments.
