Our hyper-accelerated world has impacted the way we live, work, and create. How might we use design as a tool for care, and reimagine a more equitable and sustainable future? Join designer, writer, and curator Georgina Johnson, editor of The Slow Grind: Finding Our Way Back to Creative Balance, for an interactive two-session workshop, where we will unpack this idea through the lens of race and wellbeing, intersectional environmentalism, equity, and psychological safety.
This is a two-session workshop. Throughout the workshops, participants will co-produce a digital or physical zine and be invited to explore Cooper Hewitt’s Design and Healing exhibition. Aspiring designers welcome!
Suggested Materials:

Guest Designer
Georgina Johnson is a polymath by nature—an artist, writer, designer, and curator dedicated to transforming our creative ecologies. Since graduating with first class honors from LCF in Womenswear and Pattern Cutting, Johnson has gone on to engage with disciplines that reach far beyond the practice in which she began. She has completed artist commissions for The Photographers’ Gallery, Now Gallery and The V&A (2017-2018); exhibited with The National Museums Scotland (2019); and was nominated by The British Council and The Design Museum as one of 10×10 2018. As a commentator and thinker, she has contributed to panels with SHOWstudio, Fashion Revolution, and Amsterdam Art Weekend and has been profiled by an array of publications including Creative Review, Garage Magazine, i-D, and British Vogue. Johnson is a singular and rare voice in our creative industries for the way she refuses the status quo, prioritizing shifting the paradigm over surface level or individual progress alone. By bringing her embodied experiences to the table, she cultivates tools for examining our culture and mapping out healed futures hand in hand with a constellation of innovative individuals.
