Floor 3 | Making Home

Third floor Kiosk

Welcome to the third floor of Making Home. We have entered a dark wood-framed entry area that leads into a rectangular corridor, with harlequin carpeting. In the middle of the entry area is the kiosk, a large wooden stand in the shape of two four-sided pyramids with a flat top stacked on top of each other. The kiosk holds large print label binders, brochures, and a touch map with braille text for wayfinding. The main entrance and elevator are behind us and there is some seating around the kiosk. The third floor is distinctly different from the first and second floors because the space is the most contemporary, renovated to more closely resemble an open plan gallery space than a gilded age mansion. As you wander down the corridor, you can more easily enter and exit the galleries without navigating through narrow doorways or encountering closed spaces. Facing north from the area with the kiosk you will encounter the following installations [starting to the left and working around clockwise]: Aging and the Meaning of Home, The Architecture of Reentry, Casa Desenterrada/Exhuming Home, We:sicem ki: (Everybody’s Home), and Hālau Kūkulu Hawaiʻi: A Home That Builds Multitudes.
